Funny Fab: Lebron James Nike Commercial

This is hilarious! Lebron James or should I say Mr. Smooth and Nicole Scherzinger kill it in this commercial. Watch below!

The Black Church, Politics & Power at Bethel AME

I admit I'm a bit obsessed with politics (it was my minor) and this election season has been wonderful. I can't get enough of the CNN pundits, especially my favorite Roland Martin.

Dr. Frank M. Reid III, Senior Pastor of historic Bethel AME Church in Baltimore Maryland will host "Three Days That Will Change The Nation: The Black Church, Politics & Power", an empowerment event designed to educate, enlighten and mobilize a massive number of voters for this historic presidential election. "Three Days That Will Change The Nation" will take place from Sunday, November 2nd through Tuesday, November 4th at Bethel AME Church, 1300 Druid Hill Ave, Baltimore, MD.

The super charged election confab will begin on Sunday, November 2nd at 8: 00 am with Dr. Reid delivering the morning message and Radio Talk Show Host and CNN's political contributor, Roland Martin delivering the 11:30 am message. Martin is a "hard hitting, straight talking" political analyst for CNN and author of "Listening to the Spirit Within".
Host and organizer Dr. Reid, explains, "This is one of the most important elections in the history of America. Due to the importance of this election, every vote and every voter is extremely important. The Black Church has been a repository of power in the African American community for over 200 years. It is important that we maximize our vote and our vision in this significant election."

The Photography Of Robert Houston & The 1968 Poor People's Campaign

Most Daring Dream features more than fifty images of what some scholars see as Martin Luther King’s final and most ambitious vision. Additionally, as part of the exhibit, the museum is working with Morgan’s Digital Media Center to produce a short film about the campaign, which will be narrated by Kweisi Mfume.

Although King was instrumental in planning the protest, he was assassinated weeks before the march on Washington began. The campaign continued, however, and was led by Ralph Abernathy, Andrew Young, and Jesse Jackson. This event not only marked an important transition in the Civil Rights Movement, it helped to shape contemporary American history.

My main man Michael Baisden (ok not really, but I love him) played this song on air today and I couldn't help but smile. While it's hilarious, it's great that the kids care enough to know about the issues!

I can't tell you who to vote for (Obama) but make sure you vote (for Obama)!

Trouble in the Water at Maryland Institute College of Art

Trouble in the Water is a documentary about the common people in New Orleans most afflicted by Hurricane Katrina.

Kim and Scott Roberts were two of the far too many New Orleans residents left to survive Hurricane Katrina on their own, only they weathered the flood and its displacing aftermath with a camcorder in tow. Incorporating the Roberts' harrowing footage from during Katrina's wrath, producers/directors Carl Deal and Tia Lessin wisely stay out of the way in Trouble the Water, which offers a firsthand witnessing to this devastating moment in American history. Tonight the Maryland Film Festival offers a free screening of this riveting documentary.

Mellow Monday's at Eden's Lounge

(Lady D)

According to the Baltimore City Newspaper, Mellow Monday's at Edens Lounge (15 Eager) is the place to be!

"If Wednesday is the new Friday and Saturday the new amateur drinker's night--and who knows what the new black is right now--then where does that leave Monday? Most of us still have to trudge to work to make that green to pay those bills, most of us still have grind it out in some 40-hour drudgery with too little leave and too much to do, and most of us still want to unwind somehow in any way we can.

The good people over at Eden's Lounge have the perfect tonic for the beginning of the workweek woes: Mellow Out Mondays, where chill jazz and mellow blues come out of the speakers when Lady D and her neo-soul house band aren't giving it to you softly. Cheers."

Jennifer Hudson's Mother Found Dead

Singer Jennifer Hudson's mother Darnell and brother Jason were found shot dead in the mother's Chicago home. This is beyond depressing. To finally make it in life, as an artist and an Oscar winner, and to lose your mother and brother. It's incredibly tragic.

Darnell Hudson, mother to almost universally loved Oscar-winner and American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson, was murdered in Chicago today. "Investigators said two shooting victims were discovered inside a home belonging to Hudson's mother just before 3:00 this afternoon," local TV reports. The other victim: her brother Jason. Police are releasing no details except to say it was "domestic."

From local TV reports:
An Amber Alert was also issued for a child who might also be related to the singer and Oscar-winning actress.

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of domestic abuse, but she declined to elaborate.

Authorities were looking for a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban missing from the area around the home with 7-year-old Julian King inside, Bond said. The child was also possibly a relative of Hudson, she said.
For more, read here.

BmoreFab! sends our prayers and condolences out to the Hudson Family.

Early Voting In Maryland

I'm almost ashamed to say that I did not know Early Voting (in person) was NOT a law in Maryland. I recently found myself looking for locations to do my early voting (trying to avoid the long lines) and found out that there was no such thing. While it's true that absentee voting is permitted if one is qualified, this is not the same as early voting in other states.

For example, in some small parts of Nevada, Grocery stores have early voting machines located in them so that citizens may vote while shopping (how convenient).

FYI: If you want early voting in the future, vote YES on this years ballot for Maryland to allow Early Voting in the next election.

Champs Sports Bar&Grill

I have to admit the club scene with the same people doing the same thing can be a bit redundant sometimes, which is why I was so happy when DCFab! informed me (read her review here) of one of her favorite afterwork spot Champs Sports Bar & Grill (6600 Baltimore National Pike).

(DCFab! Girl and I)

The atmosphere is intimate with locals dancing to the music, eating wings, and playing pool. The drinks are reasonably priced and strong, and the food is GREAT!

The music (Go DJ!) is always on point and of course the fella's love the many t.v.'s that are playing the games. This place is def a WIN! Enjoy and tell them BmoreFab! sent you.

PSA: Be Careful When Using Facebook!

If you love facebook like I do then you're probably on it all the time, updating your profile pic, changing your status, putting up silly pics of you and your friends, and basically doing what us facebook lovers do!

The numbers are increasing for hiring managers to check out Facebook to see what you put for the world to see, and a whopping 34% of managers found content that made them decide NOT to hire a candidate.

If that's not enough to scare you, remember what happened to Miss France’s and other "celebs" who have lost their chances at winning due to inappropriate photographs being circulated on the web. We can't forget the young woman from Jersey either who had what I would say were pretty mild pics on facebook.

Remember the internet is such a small world and with one little click your photos can be copied and sent everywhere!

Make sure to GOOGLE wisely too!! This new ZIGGS website will let you see every time someone Googles your name. Eek.Handy for businesses who are looking to check who is actually Googling them.

Sort of stalkerish...but uh I like it:)

J-O-B-S and UBoast

I don't know about you, but the thought of a recession happening is quite scary. Thousands of people are getting laid off everyday, banks are failing, and our country is in the middle of a crisis. Everday we hear the candidates running for president talking about the importance of jobs, it's one of the most imporant issues in this race, if not the most important. Job security is no longer a gurantee and it's important that you protect yourself in times like these.
I recently came across Uboast.com and fell in love with the new way to market yourself, virtual resumes! This site allows you to upload video resumes, personal profiles, and documents of any previous work. It's a great marketing tool and a great way to be on your job grind!

Komen Maryland Race for the Cure

Imagine combining a runner's endorphin high with that "I'm-such-a-good-person" feeling you get after participating in a event that changes the lives of others. Chances are you might feel just that great after the Race for the Cure.

This 5K run/walk benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the research, education, screening, and treatment of the disease that has been the foundation's mission since 1982 (20 years ago a woman diagnosed had a 76 percent chance of surviving five years; today it's 90 percent). But if the number "5" followed by the letter "K" intimidates you, there's a one-mile fun-run/walk. And with the promise of 20,000 bananas and 50 port-a-potties, you couldn't possibly regret it.

Beyonce: Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)

I'll be the first to admit that I'm one of Beyonce's biggest fans, so excuse me while I vent a little bit. It amazes me how people genuinely hate on this girl! I remember back in 2006 when she first put out B'Day and everyone said it was "so" bad! HA!

Fast forward two years later and women and men are saying "to the left- to the left." Woman still go crazy when "Get Me Bodied" comes on in the club and the car (don't front). B coined the term "freakum" dress. She had dancers everywhere trying to do her "De JaVu." Oh and let's not forget how we all like to say "Up..up..up Grade you."
So yes while you may not like all of her songs there's no need to hate on everything she puts out especially when you'll be singing along a month later.
