The Photography Of Robert Houston & The 1968 Poor People's Campaign
Although King was instrumental in planning the protest, he was assassinated weeks before the march on Washington began. The campaign continued, however, and was led by Ralph Abernathy, Andrew Young, and Jesse Jackson. This event not only marked an important transition in the Civil Rights Movement, it helped to shape contemporary American history.

You Can Vote for Whoever You Like
My main man Michael Baisden (ok not really, but I love him) played this song on air today and I couldn't help but smile. While it's hilarious, it's great that the kids care enough to know about the issues!
I can't tell you who to vote for (Obama) but make sure you vote (for Obama)!

Pic Recap: Terrell Suggs Sickle Cell Charity Event
Trouble in the Water at Maryland Institute College of Art
Kim and Scott Roberts were two of the far too many New Orleans residents left to survive Hurricane Katrina on their own, only they weathered the flood and its displacing aftermath with a camcorder in tow. Incorporating the Roberts' harrowing footage from during Katrina's wrath, producers/directors Carl Deal and Tia Lessin wisely stay out of the way in Trouble the Water, which offers a firsthand witnessing to this devastating moment in American history. Tonight the Maryland Film Festival offers a free screening of this riveting documentary.

Mellow Monday's at Eden's Lounge
According to the Baltimore City Newspaper, Mellow Monday's at Edens Lounge (15 Eager) is the place to be!
"If Wednesday is the new Friday and Saturday the new amateur drinker's night--and who knows what the new black is right now--then where does that leave Monday? Most of us still have to trudge to work to make that green to pay those bills, most of us still have grind it out in some 40-hour drudgery with too little leave and too much to do, and most of us still want to unwind somehow in any way we can.
The good people over at Eden's Lounge have the perfect tonic for the beginning of the workweek woes: Mellow Out Mondays, where chill jazz and mellow blues come out of the speakers when Lady D and her neo-soul house band aren't giving it to you softly. Cheers."

Jennifer Hudson's Mother Found Dead
Singer Jennifer Hudson's mother Darnell and brother Jason were found shot dead in the mother's Chicago home. This is beyond depressing. To finally make it in life, as an artist and an Oscar winner, and to lose your mother and brother. It's incredibly tragic.
Darnell Hudson, mother to almost universally loved Oscar-winner and American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson, was murdered in Chicago today. "Investigators said two shooting victims were discovered inside a home belonging to Hudson's mother just before 3:00 this afternoon," local TV reports. The other victim: her brother Jason. Police are releasing no details except to say it was "domestic."
From local TV reports:
An Amber Alert was also issued for a child who might also be related to the singer and Oscar-winning actress.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of domestic abuse, but she declined to elaborate.
Authorities were looking for a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban missing from the area around the home with 7-year-old Julian King inside, Bond said. The child was also possibly a relative of Hudson, she said.
For more, read here.
BmoreFab! sends our prayers and condolences out to the Hudson Family.

PSA: Be Careful When Using Facebook!
If you love facebook like I do then you're probably on it all the time, updating your profile pic, changing your status, putting up silly pics of you and your friends, and basically doing what us facebook lovers do!
The numbers are increasing for hiring managers to check out Facebook to see what you put for the world to see, and a whopping 34% of managers found content that made them decide NOT to hire a candidate.
If that's not enough to scare you, remember what happened to Miss France’s and other "celebs" who have lost their chances at winning due to inappropriate photographs being circulated on the web. We can't forget the young woman from Jersey either who had what I would say were pretty mild pics on facebook.
Remember the internet is such a small world and with one little click your photos can be copied and sent everywhere!
Make sure to GOOGLE wisely too!! This new ZIGGS website will let you see every time someone Googles your name. Eek.Handy for businesses who are looking to check who is actually Googling them.
Sort of stalkerish...but uh I like it:)

Komen Maryland Race for the Cure
Imagine combining a runner's endorphin high with that "I'm-such-a-good-person" feeling you get after participating in a event that changes the lives of others. Chances are you might feel just that great after the Race for the Cure.
This 5K run/walk benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the research, education, screening, and treatment of the disease that has been the foundation's mission since 1982 (20 years ago a woman diagnosed had a 76 percent chance of surviving five years; today it's 90 percent). But if the number "5" followed by the letter "K" intimidates you, there's a one-mile fun-run/walk. And with the promise of 20,000 bananas and 50 port-a-potties, you couldn't possibly regret it.
