Rapper Common launches The Corner
What's The Corner? It's not what you're thinking. It's not the Common remake of the the ever popular drama about Baltimore City. Common has created the Common Ground Foundation to "dedicate itself to the empowerment and development of urban youth in the United States. Through this wonderful organization he has spawned the "The Corner", an online book club geared towards 13-18 year olds. Shout out to Common for affecting positive changes in our urban communities!!! Not necessarily your traditional definition of fabulous but definitely fabulous in its own right! To find out more about Common's foundation and The Corner click here.
Lavish Party|8.31.08
Eden's Lounge is one of the most popular venues in Baltimore City so there is no surprise that The Overachievers and AllforOne Entertainment are bringing you a Labor Day party on Sunday night. There are no excuses...you don't have to work on Monday so get off the couch and out of the house to have a good time. However, having fun does not come without a price! Sorry ladies you are not free before any hour...the cost $5 before 11. That's wack! The promoters must really want to make some money because it seems as though there will not be any fantastic drink specials and there will no fab stars in the building. At any rate, if you're not cooking out til the A.M. head on over the lounge, Eden's Lounge that is.
Saturday 8.30.08 Summer Black Party
By now, you all know of Soul Five Saturdays at Timothy Deans Lounge located at 1717 Eastern Ave. This Saturday is not your normal Soul Five party. This week is all about BLACK! A potential black president, supporting black businesses, being active in the black community, so you get the point right. Attire is simple - fly and fab in all black! This is definitely the best look for Saturday night!

8.28.08| FLYY SOCIETY PARTY
Back to school parties are in full effect! Think about it - a hot party in Baltimore on a Wednesday night (unheard of). Oh but not tonight. The Flyy Society and Tipstar Entertainment are throwing a party at Club Mate located at 3612 S. Hanover St. Like I said before, it's a back to school event so that means this event is for the 18 and over crew. They are even letting people in with college IDs!!! (didn't know places still did that). Ladies are free before 10:30 and dress to impress. Sorry people but I don't know anything about drink specials. However, 92Q's Pork Chop and DJ Big L will be in the building. Have fun Bmore, but you'll miss me at this event; I just can't do the 18 and over thing.

8.27.08| Funky Fresh
Looking for something to do tonight? Well if you're going back to school like me then Bedrock located at 401 West Baltimore St. maybe the spot for you? Have you heard of this place? At any rate my high school buddy DJ Kali is hosting the party. This is a back to school event but somehow I get the feeling this is an 18+ production. If so, be ready to party with the kiddies!!! Ugh its that time of year again...bye bye summer!
Michelle Obama's Keynote Address at the Democratic Convention
In case you were under a rock last night, and missed Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention, let me just say you missed history!!! Michelle Obama's speech was simply amazing, and if you're looking for the definition of fab!, here it is:)
My heart smiled as I thought about my Nana (in heaven) watching this beautiful black woman giving the speech of her life on the world stage. A huge part of me wanted to shout, scream for joy, and run through the house thanking Jesus, but I kept my cool.
I ran through every important moment of my life and I couldn't recall ever having been so proud of someone or something. A black woman, a real black woman, was really on my television screen as the potential first lady of the United States of America.
She has given young black women (and all women) something more to aspire to in life. I can now say with confidence that there is nothing I can't do!
I am just soooooooooooo proud and flying so high today!
Yes We Can and Yes We Will!

Steamy Night Soiree
Join my girl from high school days Rashidah Ebb at a Steamy Night Soiree on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 10pm-2pm. That tag line for this not so average party is " Hot Girls, Sexy Men, Crazy DJ, and Free Food". Sounds like a party to me. For anyone who is wondering about drinks - a cash bar is available. This event will be held outdoors so if it rains the event will be rescheduled to the 22nd. This is a 21 and over event and tickets are $15 and more at the door. Dress fly because no athletic wear is permitted. For more information click here or see the flyer above.
Michael Phelps| Olympic Champion
The native Baltimorian Michael Phelps is all over the headlines, gracing the covers of magazines, and is on everyone's TeleTube! Michael Phelps, nicknamed the "Baltimore Bullet" is being labeled as the greatest Olympian of all times and he is just 23 years old. He has already won 5 Gold medals and he has 3 more left to conquer. I just had to show some love and support to Michael Phelps. I mean he is from Bmore!

T.I. Makes a Visit to 92Q
So T.I. came to Baltimore again to promote his latest album Paper Trail. Popular Bmore QJ Neke had the privilege of interviewing Clifford 'T.I.' Harris on the radio the other day. I distinctly remember hearing this interview because I was on my way to lunch with a colleague. However, there were definitely aspects of the interview that the listeners (including me) did not hear. You can see for yourself what we missed out on. Beware, the video is a bit long!
Mario Featured in Essence Magazine
Baltimore's own Mario is not only making headlines on TV, in Hollywood, and on the most popular celebrity blogs. Mario and his mom were featured in Essence magazine this month. Through an interview with Porsche Slocum, Mario gave us insight into his music, his mother's addiction, and of course the many rumors that are circulating about him. To read more about Bmore's own Mario click here or pick up the most recent issue of Essence Mag!
